The Welding Institute is the leading professional engineering institution responsible for the professional registration and certification of welding and joining personnel worldwide.  It embraces a professional institution, a certification body, a training organisation and a world renowned research and technology centre

Simply, it exists to help individuals to build and improve their careers.

As a Licensed Member of the Engineering Council, The Welding Institute has a responsibility to nominate and submit appropriately qualified candidates for registration as Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, or Engineering Technician.

The Welding Institute also fosters a deep-seated knowledge base in the development of occupational standards and vocational qualification.  As an influential lobbying group it offers authoritative guidance to statutory bodies like the British Standards Institution, the Engineering Council and even central government, charged with making the rules.
