The Welding Institute offers its professional members plenty of opportunity to support the work of the Institute through volunteering. Listed below are the vacancies we currently have available where we would welcome your support.

VACANCIES

 Committees

Vacancy:      Membership, Education and Registration Committtee
Duties:

      Main duties include:

  • attending committee meetings
  • actively promote the benefits of professional membership to colleagues and others in the industry
  • assessing applicants for professional membership/EngC registration
  • make recommendations for the development of education/training
  • review/update membership and registration fact sheets
  • attend meetings on behalf of the committee on an adhoc basis
  • act as a Professional Review Assessor for interviews and assessments of porfolio/technical reports
When & where:       4 meetings per year (April, June, September, December)
      TWI Ltd, Gt Abington, Cambridge
Requirements:
  • professional member of The Welding Institute
  • registrant of The Engineering Council
  • able to attend committee meetings in Cambridge

Vacancy:      WJS Management Committee
Duties:
  • develop, administer and promote the activities of the WJS 
  • formulate the requirements for admission to WJS Membership 
  • advise on the requirements of Members 
  • enhancing the benefits of membership
  • administer the Branches, Technical Groups and other services provided for Members
  • encourage and facilitate the transfer of technology and networking via the WJS National Conference & other meetings
When:       2 meetings per year (spring and autumn)

  • member of The Welding & Joining Society
  • able to attend committee meetings in Cambridge

Professional Membership Assessments

Vacancy:       Assessor (Technical Reports)
Duties:        available for adhoc review and marking of technical report submissions
       as part of the assessment procedure of Professional membership and
       Engineering Council registration
When & where:        adhoc basis
Requirements:
  • professional member of The Welding Institute
  • Engineering Council registrant
  • detailed technical knowledge with relation to your own specialism/area of industry interest
  • volunteers will ideally hold some experience in writing and reviewing work related technical reports, university thesis, projectwork etc within their field

Vacancy:       Professional Review Interviewer
Duties:       willing and available to interview candidates for professional 
      membership and EngC registration on an adhoc basis.  
      provide recommendations to the Membership, Education and
      Registration committee for award of membership.
When & where:       adhoc basis
Requirements:
  • professional member of The Welding Institute
  • Engineering Council registrant
  • willing to undertake short training workshop in order to learn procedure and mark scheme for Professional Review Interview process

Educational Outreach

Vacancy       Big Bang UK (Welding with Chocolate)
Duties:       to assist in the running of conference stand, demonstrating "Welding
      with Chocolate" experiments to  children and young people for 1, 2 or 3
      days
When & where:      15-17 March 2012, NEC Birmingham
Requirements:      enthusiastic individuals with a passion for educating young people about
     welding and engineering,  Ideally local to Birmingham for travel
     purposes.
