TWI Frequently asked questions

What is the usual application process for Professional Membership?

The Application Process consists of the folowing stages:

  • Submission by the applicant of Application Form with Proposer/Seconder or Referees; Authenticated CV (including academic certificates); Training Report; and, for applicants as Member, Senior Member or Fellow, a Case Study

  • Application is acknowledged and checked; staff recommendation on class of membership

  • Review of application by the Membership, Education and Registration Committee (MERC)

  • Notification of the Committee Decision plus any request for additional information required. Applicants will be advised if Individual Case assessment is required

  • For membership linked to corresponding Engineering Council UK registration (and other applications as indicated by MERC), a Professional Review Interview is arranged

  • MERC confirms the class of membership awarded

  • Notification of outcome with requests for fees followed by issue of membership certification and welcome pack

  • TWI registers applicant with Engineering Council UK (if applicable)

  • Applicant receives confirmation of registration direct from Engineering Council UK
