Requirements for the Class of INCORPORATED MEMBER (IncMWeldI)

The class of Incorporated Member recognises those qualified at Incorporated Engineer level, or equivalent, who have gained knowledge, understanding and experience of welding/joining or an allied technology. Requirements for this class are as follows:



Outline Details
Engineering Education Hold one of the following:
  1. An accredited Batchelors degree in engineering or technology
  2. An EdExcel (formerly BTEC) or SQA (formerly SCOTVEC) Higher Certificate or Higher National Diploma in engineering or technology subject plus appropriate further learning e.g. The Diploma of European Welding Technologist.

Notes:

  • An EdExcel or BTEC Certificate gained between 1987 and 2000 which includes 8 H units, a project, and pass in mathematics and computing at level III (N/H) or level H are acceptable to the Engineering Council.

  • HNCs gained in 1987 and before satisfy the academic requirements.

  • In both cases, student performance records are required.

  • An Open University ordinary degree with a technology profile approved for IEng - see Fact Sheet VI

OR


  1. A qualification or combination of qualifications assessed on a case by case basis through the Individual Route

    NB: Some candidates will also be required to submit a technical Report - see Fact sheet IV

AND
May be eligible for Incorporated Engineer registration with Engineering Council (UK) - see Fact Sheet II

Plus
Knowledge of Welding Technology
AND
Demonstrate that he/she has acquired a level of knowledge of welding/joining technology appropriate to this class by:
  1. Holding an award from one of the older courses referred to above, in which fabrication and welding technology was included as a specialisation
  2. The Diploma of European Welding Technologist
  3. Holding a pass in the Diploma Course in Welding Technology
  4. Combination of evidence. This may be a mix of original work comprising, for example, company manuals (eg quality and welding procedures), reports, publications, course certificates and other items which collectively indicate that the candidate has a knowledge of welding/joining or an allied technology.

Experience
AND
Have had experience of a scientific or technical nature, extending over not less than three years minimum duration, in relation to the development or application of welding/joining or one of the allied technologies. This experience must be obtained after gaining the academic qualification.

Responsibility
AND
Have held a position of responsibility for at least two years at Incorporated Engineer level or equivalent relevant to welding or an allied technology.

Professional Review
AND
Unless already registered as an Incorporated Engineer, a candidate must satisfy the aims of the Professional Review Interview procedure before election or transfer to the class of Incorporated Member can take place unless applying for Incorporated Member only and an interview is not deemed necessary.

Professional Development
AND
Maintain and enhance competence with professional development through personal reviews and objectives, related activities, provision of evidence and evaluation of outcomes.


Fees are due at submission of application and are non-refundable.

  • Application fee payable on submission of application: £60
    NB: Fee to be offset against appropriate entrance fee for those candidates not requiring a Professional Review Interview. If a Professional Review Interview is conducted the £60 will be used to cover the cost.

  • Transfer fee payable on submission of application: £40
    If a Professional Review Interview is required no additional charge will be made.

  • Individual Route Assessment for candidates whose qualifications require Individual assessment for equivalence against exemplifying qualifications there will be an assessment fee of £50.00, payable on either submission of application or receipt of notification that qualifications require Individual Route Assessment.
