The Welding Institute, broadens Arkwright Scholars' Awareness

Arkwright Scholarships News and Events

Arkwright scholars, parents and teachers were invited to TWI on Friday 3rd July for a hugely successful engineering awareness day

Students and parents experienced a 'hands on' forensic engineering workshop with YMC committee member Dr Philippa Moore, who is one of TWI's Senior Project Leaders. They all took on the role of air accident investigators for the day, and analysed failed components and a portfolio of evidence to determine the cause of the crash. A tour of TWI's laboratories, engineering hall and workshops helped to bring to life the vast range of welding and joining technologies and their application to solving engineering challenges in all industry sectors.

We hope to run this event annually along with other educational yearly events to broaden educational awareness of the welding institute and offer students career information specific to our industry sector.

TWI is currently sponsoring students on the Arkwright scholarship trust. For further information on The Arkwright Trust please visit www.arkwright.org.uk/.

Networks

The WJS has many branches around the country, and each branch organises local events to raise the awareness of welding and joining technology. These events are free to WJS members, and you do not have to be involved in welding, just interested, to join. More information on branch meetings.

Technical Group Meetings

The WJS also organises a series of one-day seminars on topics of relevance for industry, and these are known as Technical groups. The events may take place at various locations, and cover a range of areas. More information on technical groups and forthcoming events.
