We are delighted to see that Bob John, immediate past Chief Executive of TWI has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to industry. Bob, an Honorary Fellow of The Welding Institute, joined TWI as Business Development Director in 1991, and became Chief Executive in 2004.
A Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Bob has been influential in the welding and joining industry throughout his career. Bob made a major impact through his vision and drive for hugely successful regional development activities that both expanded TWI and created jobs and prosperity for the regions. However, his greatest service to industry was in giving TWI a sustainable business system which allowed for considerable growth in our high value adding services; he was the 'Architect of modern TWI'.
