Growth in Engineering Council registrations

10 April 2012

The Engineering Council’s annual statistics report for 2011 shows that the number of engineers and technicians obtaining a professional qualification in engineering continues to grow year on year, despite there being an overall 2% reduction in the total number on the register during 2011.

The 6.85% increase in new Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), Chartered Engineer (CEng) and ICT Technician (ICTTech) registrations during 2011 further builds on the significant 26.9% rise seen during 2010.

These statistics also revealed that The Welding Institute submitted 137 new registrants in 2011 - 11th out of the 36 recognised Professional Engineering Institutions.

Given the size of The Welding Institute in comparrison to many of our fellow Professional Engineering Institutions, these statistics are a real sentiment to the hard work and dedication of all of our staff and volunteer Membership, Education and Registration Committee members in their review, assessment and approval of prospective Professional Members and Engineering Council Registrants.
