Education
The Welding Institute is continuously striving to promote welding/materials joining education. It runs an active Education Committee which works with:
- Awarding bodies
- Universities such as Cranfield University
- Further Education Colleges
- the Engineering Technology Board (ETB) www.etechb.co.uk
- the Sector Skills Council www.semta.org.uk
- many other industrial forums www.industryforum.co.uk
We have a committee specifically dedicated to the needs of the welding and joining FE sector - AWFTE (Association of Welding and Fabrication Training and Education) whose aims are:
- To push forward the development of the National Welder Training Standard
- Transform the Fabrication Group into a national body relating to QCA and relevant Sector Skills Councils
- Strengthen continuously the ties with all relevant organisations to improve the influence of future policies
- Extend the impact of the SkillWELD competition and the welding/fabrication feature of the Skills Show to raise further the profile of our craft and technology
- Establish a national database for welding and fabrication facilities in colleges and training organisations
