Local Branch News - from your area!

Eastern Counties - Co-operation

The EC Branch has managed to hold some joint meetings, specifically with the local IoM3 and the Rae. We did this primarily to try and boost numbers attending events. The joint event has also exposure member to a wider range of technologies, which we believe is a good thing. However, setting up such meetings, especially the first one has not proved easy. Any hints would be appreciated. John Weston weston559@btinternet.com

7. Engineering Technician (EngTech)

There is high and growing demand in a wide range of engineering-related fields for registered Engineering Technicians. Registered Engineering Technicians (EngTechs) are usually well paid, are vital and highly valued members of engineering teams, and enjoy secure futures with many opportunities for professional development.

EngTech is a valuable, portable, internationally recognised award. You use EngTech after your name, so your professionalism stands out. EngTech is protected by the Engineering Council's Royal Charter so EngTech can only be used by registered technicians.

Anyone of any age working in an engineering or construction field with knowledge and understanding of technical matters at around NVQ3/ONC level who can show competence and experience and commitment to professional standards can apply to be registered as an EngTech. For further information please contact lois.appleyard@twi.co.uk

8. Engineer listings in the telegraph

For a number of years lists of newly registered engineers have been published on the first Thursday in March, June, September and December in The Times, The Daily Telegraph and, for new registrants resident in Scotland, The Scotsman.

Due to a price restructure by The Times which has made publication costs prohibitive, lists will only appear in The Daily Telegraph and The Scotsman. The latest publication was on Thursday 6 March 2008 and includes those registered between 28 November 2007 and 26 February 2008.

7 May, 2008 ECUK

Andrew Ramsay, Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Council UK (ECUK), today called on government to introduce statutory recognition of the professional titles Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and Engineering Technician (EngTech). He did so while giving evidence before a major inquiry into engineering by the House of Commons Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee.
