Materials Technical Group (TG3)

Overview

The Materials Technical Group meetings cover topics including metals; non-ferrous metals; advanced materials (e.g. intermetallic and composites); plastics and ceramics; mechanical properties in metallic and non-metallic joints; service behaviour of components joined by welding or other means; defect mechanisms and weldability testing; metallurgical aspects of filler materials; metallurgy of welding tube and pipe; health and safety; computer software and tools; national and international standards; quality control and IIW activities related to metallurgy.

Chris Miller
Chris joined TWI in December 2010 as a Project Leader in the Ferritic Steels Section of the Metallurgy, Corrosion & Surfacing Group.  Prior to working at TWI Chris worked at Corus Strip Products from 2002 to 2006 as a research engineer with activities focussed on the joining of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) for automotive applications.  Chris has also worked at Linamar Automotive Systems Ltd (formerly Visteon) as shift metallurgist responsible for the continuous gas carburising of automotive gear components.
